After previously leading its Marlborough operations, Maurice Phelan has returned to life sciences company Sartorius AG to lead its North American operations.
Phelan is the company’s new president of Sartorius North America, Inc., according to a Tuesday announcement from the company. Phelan succeeds Mary Lavin, who retired, as the international life sciences research and biopharma company’s president for its North American branch, which is headquartered in New York and has sites in Marlborough and Hopkinton.
Sartorius is headquartered in Göttingen, Germany, and the company employs more than 14,000 people. Its North American arm has more than 3,000 employees at 17 locations in the United States and Canada.
Phelan rejoins Sartorius from the Waltham pharmaceutical company Repligen, where he was a vice president. Before that, he was the head of operations of the Sartorius site in Marlborough. He previously worked at GE HealthCare Technologies Inc. in Marlborough and the Merck Group‘s MilliporeSigma, which is headquartered in Burlington.
In 2021, Sartorius opened a 40,000-square-foot customer interaction center in Marlborough.
