The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center has begun a new matching grant program to help schools, community colleges and workforce training organizations buy equipment.
The program was announced this morning by Lt. Gov. Timothy Murray at the statewide STEM summit in Sturbridge.
STEM stands for Science Technology Engineering and Math, and is aimed at getting school children to consider professions in those fields.
The Equipment and Supplies Program for Skills Training Education will provide up to $250,000 per applicant for life sciences training equipment and supplies for laboratory and training space.
To be eligible, applicants must secure matching funds from industry partners. Applicants with industry partners willing to develop training programs or share expensive equipment will get special attention.
The Massachusetts Life Science Center is a quasi-public agency charged with implementing the state's $1 billion Life Sciences Initiative.
