Dancers executing complicated flips and a laser display helped the City of Leominster launch its new marketing campaign Thursday evening.
The event, held at city hall, was the official unveiling of Leominster's new tag line: "Ready for You!" The goal of the tagline and the marketing campaign is to draw attention to Leominster's suitability as a place to do business.
"The old days of people thinking we were just a smokestack-filled plastics town are over," said Mayor Dean Mazzarella.
Mazzarella hosted a special edition of his regular public access television show from the event. He introduced a variety of local businesses, including high tech medical equipment manufacturers, small local startups and Leominster Credit Union, which was the event's main sponsor. Leominster High School's robotics team also demonstrated some of its projects.
Many local residents brought their families to try the free food and watch the laser show.
Ashleigh Gelinas, a lawyer with Gelinas & Ward LLP, attended the event with her husband, who is also a lawyer with the firm, and her baby daughter.
"I think it's a great thing for the city," she said.
City officials said the marketing campaign will continue with events in May highlighting the city's attributes, including hiking trails, new businesses and the arts offerings in the city's downtown.
