A local artist has been given a $10,000 loan from the North Central Massachusetts Development Corp. to start an art studio.

Candice Churchill, owner of Artist in Hue in Leominster, plans to take her knowledge of art to hold evening art classes, paint nights, and events for women and children at her Church Street studio.

The North Central Massachusetts Development Corp. is the lending arm of the North Central Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce, specializing in microloans. It has given out more than $6.3 million in loans since 1996 and can award up to $150,000 to any one applicant.

The Artist in Hue loan will help the studio fund supplies, furniture, and other startup and capital costs at her space in the city-owned incubator space.

Churchill is a licensed art teacher in Massachusetts after studying in Florence, Italy. Classes will be available for beginner, intermediate and advanced artists.
