The 8,448-square-foot Castle Restaurant in Leicester sold for $1 million on Tuesday, according to the Worcester County Registry of Deeds.
The Castle Restaurant, which was family-owned by Evangeline and James Nicas, announced it was going up for sale in January 2020 after 71 years of operation, per its website.
Another family will continue to operate the building as a restaurant, said the announcement. Leicester resident Steven Barrett, registered under JKS Waterfront Properties LLC, purchased the property in a sale closing Tuesday.
The last sale of the property was in 2012, when other Nicas family members passed the property on to Evangeline and James for $100.
Assessed by the Town of Leicester at $726,500, the total parcel is more than 70,000 square feet.
CORRECTION: A previous version of this story stated the Castle Restaurant closed in January 2020. The restaurant announced it was for sale two years ago, but did not close until summer 2021.
