Add the Conference Board to the list of organizations that do not believe the U.S. economy is in a recession.
The board’s Leading Economic Indicators rose 0.1 percent in April, following a 0.1 percent increase in March, and a 0.3 percent decline in February. Before the March increase, the index had been in decline for five consecutive months.
The board said the economy is certainly weak, but not in a recession. The March and April increases in the index could be a sign that the economy might not weaken any further, the board said.
