Lawmakers hope to resurrect Energy Star appliance tax break

A group of Connecticut lawmakers want to resurrect a state sales tax exemption on Energy Star appliances.

The $7 million tax break expired in September. The General Assembly didn’t included any money in the budget to continue the program.

Sen. Bob Duff, a Democrat from Norwalk, says constituents across Connecticut are looking for ways to reduce their energy consumption. He says it makes sense for the state to offer financial incentives so people are guided in the right direction.

The legislature reconvenes on Feb. 6. That’s when they’ll take up adjustments to the budget that begins July 1.
