Late MTD president to get posthumous national honor

Dennis Tully, the late president of plastic injection mold manufacturer MTD Micro Molding, will be posthumously inducted into the Plastics Hall of Fame in March.

Tully joined the Charlton firm in 1989, which was run by his father and then called Miniature Tool & Die Inc. He rebranded it as MTD Micro Molding in 2010 and refocused the company on working exclusively for the medical device industry, making tiny medical components the company says are a fraction the size of a sesame seed.

The company more than doubled its workforce under Tully and grew into a $8.8-million company by last year.

Tully died unexpectedly at age 58 in February 2019. He had stepped away from day-to-day operations of the company about two years prior, with Gary Hulecki, the firm’s executive vice president, taking over those duties.

Tully’s upcoming induction into the Plastics Academy in Washington, D.C., is the second industry honor after his death. MTD was named Processor of the Year by Plastics News in March. MTD says it was the smallest company to receive the honor in 22 years.

The Plastics Academy inducts individuals into its Plastics Hall of Fame every three years, MTD said. A ceremony is scheduled for March 24 as part of the spring national board meeting of the Plastics Industry Association.
