Largest Wind-To-Grid Order For AMSC

Devens-based American Superconductor Corp. said it received its largest order to date for a grid interconnection system for wind farms.

The order came from Vestas Australian Wind Technology for AMSC’s D-VAR system. Vestas will use 24 of the D-VAR systems for a 206 megawatt wind farm currently under construction in Western Australia.

AMSC said it expects to deliver the systems to Vestas in about 12 months. The company’s D-VAR system already connects about a third of Australia’s wind power, about 600 megawatts, to its electrical grid.
