State court has charged two Merrimack Valley landlords and their four companies, with a total of 106 violations of the Massachusetts Clean Air Act by illegally handling asbestos waste at five properties, Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey announced Wednesday.
The violations concern renovation work at one Fitchburg multi-family residence and four Lowell apartments, all of which were marketed to college students, according to the announcement.
The landlords, brothers Christopher and Steven Derosa, were charged with 28 and 22 violations of the act, respectively. Their companies, DeRosa Properties, LLC and DeRosa Properties, Inc., were charged with 22 two counts each.
Additionally, the DeRosas' Greenscape Property and Building, LLC, and Greenscape Property and Building, Inc., were charged a total of six counts each for the Fitchburg violations.
The brothers will be arraigned at Worcester Superior Court and Middlesex Superior Court on an unspecified later date.
