All 22 labor markets tracked by the state experienced a jump in seasonally unadjusted unemployment rates in January, according to statistics from the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.
The Worcester, Framingham, Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner and Athol markets all saw higher unemployment rates in January compared to the month prior. But year-over-year, those areas all saw declining unemployment.
The Worcester area had a 9.4-percent unemployment rate in January, a 0.7-percentage-point improvement over the same time last year, when the rate was at 10.1 percent.
Framingham, which had a 6.8-percent unemployment rate in January, also improved 0.7 percentage points from its January 2010 rate of 7.5 percent.
The Leominster-Fitchburg-Gardner area had an 11.6 percent unemployment rate, down from 12.1 percent in January 2010.
Athol showed the most improvement year-over-year. Its unemployment rate fell from 12.4 percent to 11.3 percent.
The statewide unemployment rate was a seasonally unadjusted 9 percent, up one percentage point from the December rate.
