Kristin T. Carvalho recently moved up at Milford National, from senior vice president and senior loan officer to the bank's top spot. Vital Stats:
Age: 43
Residence: New Bedford
Family: Married with two sons
Education: B.S. in marketing UMass, MBA from Bryant University, master of finance from Suffolk University
Previous job: Vice president/senior commercial lender, Citizens Bank

Q. How are you settling in at your new office?
A. The transition has been very smooth so far.
Q. What's the biggest surprise you've had in starting the job?
A. The biggest surprise has been the tremendous outpouring of support from the employees, the bank's existing customers, and the community as a whole.
Q. What challenges do you see in your new position?
A. The economy is definitely the greatest challenge, certainly in the banking business, and for many of us managing companies.
Q. How different is this job from your previous position?
A. My previous position with the bank was managing the bank's loan portfolio, and this position is a natural progression and expansion of responsibilities.
Q. How close is this to what you imagined in high school you'd end up doing?
A. In high school I worked as a teller, which at the time was with Fleet Bank. I certainly did not imagine myself being a teller 25 years later, but I always thought banking was my calling from a young age.
Q. Where's the best place to get lunch near your new location?
A. I typically work through lunch, but if I were inclined, I would go to Restaurant 45, which is a local, lovely place in Medway.
Q. What do you hope to be doing 10 years from now?
A. I hope to continue to be the president and CEO at Milford National Bank, of course.
