Westborough-based Kopin Corp. has been awarded a contract to develop a new in-vehicle display imaging system for an American defense contractor.
Kopin, which makes high-resolution microdisplays and subsystems for augmented reality and virtual reality for defense, enterprise, and consumer applications, said on Tuesday it was awarded a $2-million defense contract by an undisclosed, but prime defense contractor, according to a press release.
The Westborough company will develop an in-vehicle display imaging system, the second in its history, which Kopin said reflects moves it has made into the large vehicle market.
Bill Maffucci, vice president of government programs at Kopin, said in a statement he expects the program to provide revenue for multiple years after the development and qualification process.
Kopin designs and manufactures precision display solutions used in extreme environments, including soldier-centric weapon sights and targeting systems, and pilot helmets for fixed and rotary wing aircraft.
