Westborough’s Kopin Corp., a manufacturer of wearable technology, has announced a partnership with San Diego-based HMDmd, Inc. to develop a head-worn display system for surgeons to ease their access to video information during surgery.
The two companies announced Tuesday they have signed an agreement with an undisclosed major medical technology company to design a headset display for surgeons. Kopin holds warrants for a significant minority equity position in HMDmd, a developer of wearable display technology for surgeons.
The goal of the new system is to allow surgeons to maintain a more comfortable position during surgery while maintaining access to high-resolution real-time information such as video images and patient data. The system aims to reduce fatigue for surgeons caused by frequently lifting and turning their heads to look at conventional monitors.
