Westborough display technology company Kopin Corp. has received a $2.8-million order of its F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program, which includes an augmented reality helmet for the F-35 jet fighter aircraft.

The helmet provides the pilot with flight, tactical, and sensor information for greater situational awareness and safety, according to a Wednesday press release from Kopin. The F-35 is the world’s most advanced jet fighter aircraft, and Kopin is the sole supplier of the AR helmet.

The aircraft is scheduled for production through 2030, so Kopin expects additional orders of the program, per the release.

“This order extends our backlog of scheduled deliveries into the third quarter of 2022 and is a testament to the quality of our display technology as the helmet in the F-35 is one of the most advanced augmented reality platforms in the world,” said Bill Maffucci, the company’s vice president of government programs, in a press release.
