Kay Doyle steps down from Cannabis Control Commission

Massachusetts Cannabis Control Commissioner Kay Doyle will step down from her seat on the commission on May 8, she announced on Monday.

Doyle was appointed to a three-year term on the commission beginning Sept. 1, 2017. She plans to return working in the private sector, although she has not yet publicly disclosed where, according to a press release from the Cannabis Control Commission on Monday.

“I am sad to leave, but very excited about the work I will be doing in the future. I am confident that the commission will continue to regulate adult-use and medical use of cannabis in a manner that focuses on public health, safety, equity, and sustainability," Doyle said in a statement.

During her time on the CCC, which is headquartered in Worcester, Doyle led efforts to draft the state's first adult-use cannabis regulations and chaired the state's Energy and Environment Workgroup, which helped set energy and environmental standards for growing cannabis.

She also authored the host community agreement report and created the CCC's expedition policy, which speeds up application processes for certain groups, including for businesses owned by women, people of color, and veterans.

Before joining the commission, she served as primary counsel to the state’s Medical Use of Marijuana Program, the Food Protection Program and the Tobacco Control Program under the Department of Public Health.
