Travelers from Worcester Regional Airport will soon be able to fly direct with JetBlue to two new Florida destinations.
Starting in June, year-round service to Orlando International Airport will resume after being cut during the airline’s COVID rollbacks, and seasonal flights in winter will be available for trips to Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers starting in January.
Once both flights are launched, JetBlue will have three direct flights to and from Florida cities from the Worcester Regional Airport, adding to the established route to Fort Lauderdale, according to a Monday press release from JetBlue. JetBlue began serving the Worcester airport in 2013.
“Worcester Regional Airport is an important economic asset for the entire state, and these new routes will help deliver even more growth and connectivity for our businesses and residents. I congratulate Massport and our federal, state, and city partners for securing this expansion with JetBlue and building on the economic and tourism benefits for Central Massachusetts,” Gov. Maura Healey said in the release.
The reintroduction of the route to Orlando and the new offering to Fort Myers are in response to increased demand from customers in Central Massachusetts for additional Florida flights, according to the release.
“The return of JetBlue’s Orlando flight and their new service to Fort Myers shows the continued growth and travel demand our region is experiencing, and we are thrilled to provide more options to the traveling public,” Lew Evangelidis, sheriff of Worcester County and chairman of the Massport board of directors, said in the release.
Tickets for the routes are available on JetBlue’s website.
