JetBlue reported a very strong fourth quarter Thursday, largely on lower fuel prices.
Operating income was $169 million, compared with $115 million in the fourth quarter of 2013. For the full year of 2014, JetBlue Airways Corp. reported operating income of $515 million compared to$428 million in 2013.
“While fuel prices have fallen substantially, we are not changing our business plan and the actions we outlined at our investor day in November,” Robin Hayes, president of the airline, said in a statement Thursday. "We believe our differentiated model of serving underserved customers will enhance long term shareholder value," he said.
JetBlue is the only commercial airline that operates out of the Worcester Regional Airport.
JetBlue reported a profit of $88 million, or 26 cents a share. That was up sharply from the year earlier, when profit was $47 million, or 14 cents a share.
Revenue rose 5.9 percent to $1.45 billion.
