•Superior Court Judge E. Curtissa R. Cofield and Superior Court Judge Gary James White received the Champions for Children award from Village for Families and Children. The recipients were selected for compassion, innovation and commitment for change in the community.
• The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology in East Hartford joined with businesses and researchers at UConn and Yale through the Nanotechnology Fellowship Bridge pilot program. Mystic MD Inc., Dymax Corp., Teleflex Medical, Precision Combustion and Anchor Science will collaborate with students and professors for research. Grant money for the projects range from $25,000 to $55,000 through June 2008.
• The Connecticut Mortgage Bankers Association Inc. Affordable Housing Committee presented the Housing CT awards to recipients who have made outstanding contributions in support of affordable housing in the state. Recipients include: Jeffrey Freiser, executive director, Connecticut Housing Coalition; Christine Traczyk, chairman of the board of directors, Connecticut Housing Coalition; Althea Marshall Richardson, president and CEO, Empower New Haven Inc.; and Liz Verna, principal, Verna Properties.
• Dr. Wilfredo Nieves, president of Middlesex Community College, received an education award from the Middlesex County NAACP branch for his commitment to the community college’s mission of access, opportunity, and service.
