Jamaican film producer and theater manager Fabian Barracks will take over as the cultural development officer in Worcester on Monday.
Barracks will replace Amy Peterson, chief of staff for City Manager Eric Batista, who held the role in interim since Erin Williams left the position in June. Williams was cultural development officer for 18 years, according to a February 2022 press release from the City of Worcester.
Barracks previously served as a program coordinator for the National Family Planning Board, a center in Kingston, Jamaica offering outreach services and sexual health testing. He directed numerous theater projects and produced advocacy films focused on youth development and human rights.
In his role with the City, Barracks will serve as executive director of the Worcester Cultural Coalition, a partnership between the City of Worcester and 12 cultural organizations across Greater Worcester.
“We’re excited to have Fabian take on the next chapter of Cultural Development here in Worcester. Fabian will work hard to ensure there is equal access to arts and culture grants, programs, and projects throughout the City in accordance with the Cultural Plan and in partnership with the Worcester Cultural Coalition,” Batista said in the press release.
