Framingham brewer Jack's Abby has always been known for its German-style lagers and even has employees travel to Germany each year for its hops and uses techniques modeled after old Bavarian methods.
Now, Jack's Abby will go a step further with its first Oktoberfest.
The brewer's take on the annual beer-centered German fall tradition will be held Sept. 27-29 at its downtown Framingham brewpub. The event will have German flair — lederhosen and dirndl, the traditional dress for men and women, is encouraged — along with live music and events for children and families.
The event is a natural extension of Jack's Abby's German-inspired roots, but it's also the latest sign of growth for the brewer, which was founded in 2011 by the Handley brothers, Jack, Eric and Sam. Jack's Abby grew production 11% to 49,000 barrels last year, and earlier this year, it expanded its distribution network to nine Northeast states.
This spring, Jack's Abby and sister brewer Springdale opened a bar at Boston's North Station called Track Zero Taproom. For more than three weeks this summer, Jack's Abby also ran a pop-up beer garden on Boston's Greenway outside the Boston Harbor Hotel.
