More jobs, new space, and beer in cans are on tap at the Jack’s Abby brewery in Framingham.
The craft beer maker announced Wednesday it will build vastly largely quarters in town. Its new 67,000-square-foot space at 100 Clinton St., formerly the site of an Avery Dennison plant, will have state-of-the-art equipment.
Production there will begin in late 2015. Beer-making capacity will initially be about 50,000 barrels annually, the company said, with space to expand to more than twice that level of production.
In its current 12,000-square-foot quarters at 81 Morton St., Jack’s Abby will have brewed about 14,000 barrels by the end of 2014, more than twice the production of a year earlier. It expects to brew 25,000 barrels in the coming year.
The beer maker also plans a restaurant, a larger tasting room, and to offer beer in cans and 12-pack bottles to a widened territory of customers. To help handle all this, it expects to hire 30 to 40 more employees by the end of 2016.
Jack’s Abby was founded three years ago by brothers Eric, Jack and Sam Hendler. Its biggest seller is Hoponius Union, an India pale lager.
“We’ve developed a great relationship with the town of Framingham over the past three years and couldn’t be happier that we found a location for the brewery that meets our needs and is central to downtown,” said head brewer Jack Hendler in the company’s online blog.
“Not only are we able to increase our capacity but we are will also able to offer 12-packs of bottles and cans. These are projects that we have wanted to do, but just don’t have the room for in our current space.”
