IT Spending Bounces Back In 2010

Last year might have been tough for the economy as a whole, but the IT industry certainly didn’t struggle, according to a new report from Framingham-based IDC.

Global spending on IT grew by 8 percent from 2009 to 2010, the fastest annual rate of growth since 2007.

Hardware investments led the way, increasing by 16 percent to more than $661 billion.

The U.S. market was similarly strong for IT. Spending grew by 6 percent and is expected to grow by another 5 percent his year. However, emerging markets were the leaders of demand last year. The Asia/Pacific region, excluding Japan, saw growth of 13 percent in IT spending.
