IPG Photonics has purchased one of its suppliers, a Florida manufacturer of chirped volume Bragg gratings.
The Oxford photonics company purchased OptiGrate Corp. of Oviedo, Fla., for an undisclosed amount, IPG announced late last month. The two companies, which have had a professional relationship for awhile, decided that joining together would be mutually beneficial.
“IPG is intensely focused on advancing the use of lasers around the world and the technology used in them. As such, the acquisition completes IPG’s internal set of core components for our revolutionary new ultrafast pulsed laser product lines that we are introducing to the market,” said Felix Stukalin, senior vice president of North American operations at IPG.
OptiGrate’s components improve performance, miniaturization and cost reduction of ultrafast pulsed lasers for micro materials processing, medical, and other applications, according to a press release. The company, founded in 1999, will continue to operate in Florida and retain all of its employees.
