IPG May Be Part Of Rural Broadband Expansion

Laser maker IPG Photonics Corp. of Oxford said a series of its fiber amplifiers has been accepted by the Rural Utilities Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The acceptance means the amplifiers can be purchased using RUS loans and grants. RUS is responsible for about $2.5 billion in federal economic stimulus funding for broadband expansion initiatives in rural communities.

IPG’s EAR series of Erbium fiber amplifiers are used in fiber networks. With federal acceptance, IPG’s amplifiers may be considered for use by telecommunications providers.
