Introducing our 2015 '10 to Watch' honorees

It's time again for our annual “10 to Watch” issue, which is an exciting opportunity to introduce you to the talented executives who lead some of the region's most visible and dynamic organizations. This year's honorees include men and women from local businesses, a nonprofit and even a town official. The common denominator: All have an eye for innovation and transformation. We hope you enjoy learning a little more about these movers and shakers.

Transformation abounds

Speaking of movement, how do you get to work in the morning? If your commute involves a lot of stop-and-go on congested MetroWest routes and highways, you may want to reevaluate the need for car travel. More companies and municipalities have stepped up efforts to offer public transit and private shuttle options to their employees. Find out the latest in Livia Gershon's feature.

What's in a brand name? Apparently, it can mean a lot to the image a community projects. Local experts weigh in on how upscale retail brands act as a catalyst for greater status, and how this is playing out right now in towns along Interstate 495. Read Susan Shalhoub's feature.

Meanwhile, in the Concord area, there's another kind of revolution happening, nearly 250 years after that other revolution you may have read about in history books. Today, it's a food revolution, according to one person quoted in our feature about the town's booming local food industry. You'll hear from business owners who have been in Concord for years, as well as newcomers, on what it is about Concord that lends itself to local food.

Regular features

In this issue, we're pleased to feature a Q&A with F. Javier Cevallos, president of Framingham State University, who was inaugurated earlier this month after coming on board last summer. Cevallos discusses funding of state schools, unionization and the new image of public colleges and universities, in “What It Takes."

We're also lucky to have Brent Maugel of Harvard-based Maugel Architects, as our “Real Angle” columnist. In this issue, he shares the latest and greatest office design elements that owners and companies are embracing in order to appeal to today's workforce. Find out how your office compares.

CLARIFICATION

Finally, I'd like to make an important clarification about our last issue: Not pictured in our feature about the women leading MetroWest-area chambers of commerce were Susanne Morreale-Leeber, president and CEO of the Marlborough Regional Chamber of Commerce, and Stephanie Stillman, executive director of the Concord Chamber of Commerce.
