International venture capital investment increased in the third quarter, but in the United States, investment was still down 38 percent from a year ago, according to Dow Jones VentureSource.
The $1.8 billion put into 297 deals in Europe, Canada, Israel, China and India during the third quarter was up from $1.5 billion invested in the second quarter and flat with investments made in the first quarter.
VentureSource said the relative consistency of investment for the first three quarters is an encouraging sign. However, venture investors in the United States put $5.1 billion into 616 deals during the quarter, a 38 percent decrease from a year ago.
The $998 million invested in 201 deals in Europe was up 23 percent from the previous quarter, which was a record low for European venture investment.
