EMC Corp.‘s Franklin manufacturing facility has become Occupational Health and Assessment Series (OHSAS) certified.
The certification, OHSAS 18001, is an international worker safety and health management certification administered by the British Accreditation Bureau. EMC facilities in Cork, Ireland are also OHSAS 18001 certified.
The standard was developed by the British Accreditation Bureau to help companies promote a healthy and safe work environment by identifying and controlling health and safety risks, reducing the potential for accidents and maintaining compliance with health and safety laws.
EMC spent two years analyzing and assessing risks at the Franklin plant before becoming accredited. The company said it expects its Apex, N.C., manufacturing plant to be certified by 2011.
