Acton medical device company Insulet has named Howard University President Dr. Wayne Frederick to its board of directors, the company announced on Tuesday.
His appointment is effective immediately, and he will also serve on the board’s audit committee, according to Insulet.
Frederick, aside from leading Howard University, serves as the Charles R. Drew Endowed Chair of Surgery at the school’s College of Medicine. He is a practicing surgeon, researcher and scholar.
According to Insulet, Frederick is an expert on disparities in healthcare and medical education, with a particular emphasis on narrowing racial, ethnic and gender disparities in cancer care outcomes among Black people and other underrepresented groups.
He’s served as the principal investigator for collaborations with the National Cancer Institute and Johns Hopkins University in Maryland. He’s a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and serves on the company board of directors at Humana Inc. of Kentucky, Forma Therapeutics Holdings, Inc. in Watertown, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond.
