Attorney General-elect Andrea Campbell has hired Patrick Moore to be her first assistant attorney general.
Moore has worked as deputy counsel to Govs. Deval Patrick and Charlie Baker and he served as associate counsel and advisor for presidential personnel in the Obama White House. He was also deputy general counsel on Joe Biden's presidential campaign.
The role as number two to the attorney general is currently held by Kate Cook, who worked with Moore in Patrick's legal office and has been tapped as Gov.-elect Maura Healey's chief of staff.
Moore is co-chair of the Government & Election Law Group and a partner in the Litigation Group at Hemenway & Barnes, where he represents municipalities, public officials and candidates for office. He teaches constitutional law at Boston College Law School.
"Pat is one of the most talented lawyers and effective partners with whom I've ever worked. I know from experience that he will bring excellent counsel, thoughtfulness, and sound judgment to the Attorney General's Office. He will be practical and principled on issues big and small," Dana Remus, former White House counsel for President Biden, said in a statement released by Campbell.
Early in his legal career, Moore practiced at Ropes & Gray where he participated in a fellowship in the government bureau of the Massachusetts attorney general's office. He served as a law clerk to Judge Maryanne Trump Barry of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit and to former Judge Robert Cordy of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
