In Shadow Of Casino Bill, Senate Passes Life Sciences Package

The defeat of the casino bill may have gotten all the attention, but Gov. Deval Patrick’s $1 billion life sciences investment package took a big step forward Thursday when the State Senate voted 32-4 for a version of the package.

Like the companion bill already passed by the House, the Senate version gives $250 million in tax credits for life sciences companies, $250 million for grants for education and research grants and $500 million for infrastructure improvements, according to the State House News Service.

Senate President Therese Murray’s office said the Senate added new measures to increase accountability and transparency of the grants, the news service reported.
