In effort to ward off Circle K takeover, 7-Eleven buys Shrewsbury gas station for $3M

A Sunoco gas station on Route 9 in Shrewsbury has been purchased by 7-Eleven, Inc. for $2.75 million, as the parent company of the well-known convenience store brand aims to grow to 100,000 stores across the world by 2030.

The eight-pump gas station, located at 524 Turnpike Road, was sold in a deal finalized on Dec. 9 by East Falmouth-based Seamist LLC, according to Worcester District Registry of Deeds records.

Seven & i Holdings Co., the Tokyo-based parent company of 7-Eleven, is aiming to open 500 new stores in the United States and Canada as part of a global expansion campaign, according to CSP.com, a website which covers the convenience and petroleum retailing industry. This expansion campaign comes as the firm wrestles with a takeover attempt from Quebec-based Couche-Tard, the operator of the Circle K brand.

7-Eleven operates more than a dozen stores in Central Massachusetts. The company also owns the Speedway gas station brand.

Constructed in 1996, the gas station sits on a 0.81-acre plot of land, which was given a tax assessment valuation of $1.03 million for 2024, according to Town of Shrewsbury property records.
