The Grand View, a waterfront event venue in Mendon, is being sold to a New York-based management group from Imperial Cars owner Kevin Meehan, who has invested more than $6 million in the property.
The purchase price has not yet been disclosed and records still show Meehan owns the 15-acre property, but the Mendon Board of Selectmen last month signed off on transferring licenses to GV Mendon Management LLC and business partners Patrick Gillan and Georgianne Fsadni, operators of five other New York and Connecticut-based event venues.
At a May 22 selectmen meeting, the two said the venue’s success and market opportunity in Central Massachusetts brought them to inquire about purchasing the business and property.
Gillan said the venue, according to their research, was one of the top five in the entire state.
The venue, located just off of Route 16 on the shore of Nipmuc Pond, is just a mile’s drive from Meehan’s main vehicle enterprise.
Meehan's attorney, Joseph Antonellis, could not be reached for comment, but he told the Mendon selectmen the property and business sale would close upon approval of the state Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission.
Meehan and his family purchased the property in 2013 for $1.1 million and made $5 million in renovations, according to the venue’s website.
The property was formerly known as the Myriad Ballroom under owner Jon Rouleau, who was charged with tax fraud when he began marketing the property for sale in 2013.
Part of his pitch to potential buyers was that financial records understated the businesses’ income, but that pitch was made to undercover federal agents. His punishment was a year of probation and more than $165,000 in penalties and restitution.
