The Grand View wedding and event venue on the shore of Nipmuc Pond in Mendon has been sold to a New York group for $4.1 million.
The sale closed Tuesday, nearly a month after Mendon officials approved a license transfer to GV Mendon Management LLC from Kevin Meehan, owner of the Mendon car enterprise Imperial Cars.
Meehan bought the property, formerly the Myriad Ballroom, in 2013 for $1.1 million and made $5 million in renovations, according to the venue’s website.
Under Meehan, the venue was first called Imperial Ballroom — a nod to his dealership and local business enterprise — and then the Grand View.
Patrick Gillan and business partner Georgianne Fsadni, operators of five New York and Connecticut event venues, told the Mendon Board of Selectmen last month the venue was one of the top five in Massachusetts, according to their research.
Before Meehan acquired the property, longtime owner Jon Rouleau was investigated and ultimately charged with tax fraud when he began marketing the site for sale in 2013. His pitch to buyers included claims that his financial records understated the business’ income, but one of those pitches were made to undercover federal agents. He was sentenced to a year of probation and more than $165,000 in penalties and restitution.
