For years, IDG's logo has stood over the eastbound lanes of the Massachusetts Turnpike as drivers head through Framingham.
Starting next year, though, the media and data company will no longer be based in the city. IDG will leave the building overlooking the Pike at 492 Old Connecticut Path and two others in Framingham, a few blocks away at 3 and 5 Speen St.
IDG will move into a new site at 140 Kendrick St. in Needham to fit roughly 600 employees under one roof, spokeswoman Lynn Holmlund said. The three-building complex, with more than 300,000 square feet, is located right off Route 128.
IDG includes two business units, IDG Communications and IDC, with brands that include TechHive, PCWorld, Computerworld and Tech Advisor. Leases in its three Framingham buildings expire early- to mid-2021, Holmlund said, making it the right time for the company to find more modern headquarters to allow all of its Massachusetts workers to be in a single building.
The move is expected to take place in January.
The building at 492 Old Connecticut Path sold in December to Campanelli, a Braintree real estate development and construction management firm. The 242,000-square-foot building sold for $29.3 million. Campanelli also bought another Framingham office building at the same time, a 136,000-square-foot office at 161 Worcester Road. That building sold for $24 million.
