Veterinary diagnostic testing supplier Idexx Laboratories Inc. has doubled the size of its testing laboratory in North Grafton.
Maine-based Idexx said in a statement Thursday that its facility on Centennial Drive has been expanded from 15,000 to 30,000 square feet. The $3.2 million project was undertaken in response to increasing demand for the processing of veterinary diagnostic tests, the company said.
The facility, which opened in 2001 and which employs 150, serves as the company’s regional hub. At a ceremony marking the renovation Thursday, Idexx executive Mike Lane said, “North Grafton has been a welcoming community and we’re proud to be a thriving and expanding business here,” according to the statement. Lane is corporate vice president for reference laboratories.
The North Grafton facility operates around the clock, processing blood and other samples that arrive from veterinary practices in the six New England states. It also serves as a core laboratory for samples received from other IDEXX laboratories on the East Coast. Among tests used is symmetric dimethylarginine, or SDMA, designed to detect early kidney problems in pets. The statement said IDEXX laboratories around the world have screened more than 500,000 samples from 10,000 clinics since SDMA was launched two months ago.
