IDC: Asia/Pacific Will Become Largest Solar Market

The Asia/Pacific region, and specifically India and China, are expected to surpass Europe as the top region of the world for the solar photovoltaic shipments, according to Framingham-based IDC Energy Insights.

The global solar market is expected to increase from 22.7 gigawatts of shipments in 2011 to 43.8 gigawatts in 2015.

While European markets made up 80 percent of solar sales in 2009 and 2010, that is expected to dramatically shift to the Asia/Pacific region in the next four years. Fueled by incentives from the Indian and Chinese governments, demand in the region is expected to make up half of international solar sales by 2015.
