Medusa Brewing Co. in Hudson and IBA Inc., a Millbury wholesaler and distributor for the dairy farm industry, have been approved by the state for tax breaks to help with expansion.
For Medusa, a 10-year tax break will help the brewery expand its downtown Hudson facility on an undeveloped site on Main Street. Medusa plans to spend $8 million on the expansion and expand its workforce from 10 to 25.
Hudson's tax break for the company, which needed approval from the Gov. Charlie Baker Administration and the Massachusetts Economic Assistance Coordinating Council, is projected to save the brewer around $297,000 on its tax bills.
IBA, a third-generation wholesaler and distributor, plans to move from Millbury to a larger space in Sutton. The company said it will buy land to build a 72,000-square-foot facility for its corporate offices and sales and distribution operations. The company has filled a 30,000-square-foot facility at 27 Providence St. in Millbury and leases 10,000 square feet of a warehouse in Sutton.
The expansion is expected to cost $8.5 million, with up to 46 full-time workers being relocated and two new workers added.
A 15-year tax break from Sutton is projected to save the company $747,000 on its taxes.
In all, the Economic Assistance Coordinating Council said Wednesday it approved 12 projects to create 414 new jobs and leverage $140 million in private investment.
