HP Prepared To Cut 9,000 Jobs

Computer giant Hewlett-Packard, which has about 2,200 employees in Marlborough, said a new, $1 billion effort to fully automate and standardize commercial data centers will result in the elimination of about 9,000 jobs.

The technology will allow HP clients to move their applications to new, modernized, faster platforms.

It will also allow HP to consolidate its enterprise services business, saving the company $1 billion annually. The company said it has been focused on ways to improve profitability in the enterprise services unit.

The 9,000 job cuts will be undertaken over a number of years, the company said. Whether positions at HP's Marlborough campus are being considered for cuts has not been decided, according to an HP spokesman.
