Is a vacation really a break if you’re doing work? A survey by Framingham-based Staples found that 60 percent of businesspeople who own a tablet computer say they use the device to check work email while on vacation.
The survey by Staples Advantage, the company’s business-to-business division, show trends in the use of tablet computers by business owners including:
- 80 percent of tablet owners say the device has improved their work/life balance.
- 40 percent of respondents report that staying connected was the primary motivator for getting a tablet.
- 75 percent of tablet owners use the device primarily to check email while one-third of respondents use the device to review and edit documents.
- 78 percent of tablet owners admit to using the device in bed.
- 35 percent admit to using it in the bathroom.
- 30 percent admit to using it in a restaurant.
- Two-thirds of respondents said they don’t back up information on their tablet.
- 15 percent said their device is enabled with encryption or anti-virus software.
- 95 percent of respondents use the device as a supplement to a laptop or other computer.
- 60 percent of users expect the tablet to be their primary computer someday
