Houston Firm Acquires RBJ

Richards Barry Joyce & Partners, a commercial real estate brokerage with a significant presence in the MetroWest region, has been acquired by the Houston-based real estate firm Transwestern, RBJ announced this week.

The acquisition marks Transwestern’s entrance into New England, with the Boston office becoming its 34th U.S. location, according to a statement. As of Nov. 1, RBJ will be known as Transwestern RBJ.

Transwestern CEO Larry P. Heard in a statement called his company and RBJ “culturally compatible.”

“This acquisition will immediately connect our new Boston-area clients with Transwestern’s global enterprise and allow us to better serve our existing clients who do business in Boston and throughout the Northeast,” Heard said.

Founded in 2001, RBJ is a market leader in the Greater Boston region, and represents a number of commercial real estate properties in Natick, Framingham and surrounding towns.

This spring, RBJ brokered the $5.5-million sale of MetroWest Place, a five-story office building adjacent to Route 9 in Framingham and formerly occupied by Genzyme Corp., as well as four warehouse leases totaling more than 276,000 square feet in and around Westborough’s Otis Street.

Steve Purpura, managing partner at RBJ, said in a statement that the acquisition will allow RBJ to expand its capabilities while maintaining its focus on high-level service.

“Joining Transwestern will allow us to maintain that focus while making available a broader palette of services to landlords and tenants, both locally and beyond,” Purpura said.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
