Hopkinton Firm Teams Up For Africa Work

Hy9 Corp. of Hopkinton and a South African company are teaming up to provide hydrogen power systems to enable the deployment of wireless communications systems in sub-Saharan Africa, Hy9 announced.

Hy9, which makes high-purity hydrogen-generation products for fuel cells, said it and the other firm, Clean Energy Investments, will work together to integrate fuel-cell stationary power systems with Hy9’s hydrogen generators for turnkey backup power systems. The systems will be suitable for African markets, including locations that don’t have access to grid-based power.

Gary Clarke, Hy9’s president and CEO, said Clean Energy Investments has a “substantial knowledge” of the continent’s communications industry and is “well positioned to meet the requirements of customers” who need cost-effective and reliable power.
