Although nearly 2,000 miles away, a Hopkinton brewer is hoping to make a sizeable donation to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
Start Line Brewing Co. in Hopkinton is donating 10 percent of its taproom sales this weekend to the American Red Cross. That includes all sales of beer and merchandise, said Owner Ted Twinney.
“As we’re seeing everything happen in Texas, I couldn’t not do anything,” he said.
The Houston, Texas area has been battered with rain and wind for the better part of a week from Hurricane Harvey, leaving behind high flood waters.
So far, the storm and flooding have claimed 37 lives and thousands of homes.
Twinney said he and other owners have already donated personally, but want to give even more.
One of his employees has family in the Houston area in a neighborhood that has been devastated.
“Their personal property is OK, but their lives are changed now,” Twinney said.
A portion of funds raised from taproom sales from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and noon and 6 p.m. Sunday at the brewery’s 151R Hayden Rowe St. location will be donated.
