Charlotte conglomerate Honeywell has acquired the Southborough-based unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) subsidiary of Vancouver, B.C.,-based Ballard Power Systems, Inc. in a deal to see the two companies collaborate on fuel cells in the future.
The deal transfers Ballard Unmanned Systems, a subsidiary of Ballard, and all of its assets and employees to Honeywell, according to releases from the two companies.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The agreement marks an upcoming collaboration on fuel cell technology, although the Ballard release indicates those agreements are still being worked on while the Honeywell release says the deal involves Ballard's team of fuel-cell experts joining the company as part of the acquisition.
Ballard President and CEO Randy MacEwen said the decision was made to divest of the UAV division given the company’s focus on the heavy- and medium-duty motive markets of bus, truck, train and marine.
