Hometown Bank of Webster moved closer to merging with Athol-Clinton Co-operative Bank with an approval from the state Division of Banks.
Under the merger, Athol-Clinton’s two branches in Athol and South Lancaster would take on the Hometown name. Hometown already has branch offices in Oxford and Sturbridge.
Shareholders of both banks have already approved the merger, and Hometown has said it hopes to complete the process in April.
Hometown has total assets of about $221.8 million, while Athol-Clinton’s assets total about $85.4 million.
