Massachusetts home sales in August shot up 9.8 percent, marking the most active August in 17 years, according to data released Tuesday.
The Warren Group reported that year-to-date home sales in Massachusetts are up 14.2 percent and year-to-date prices are up 1.2 percent, to $349,000. The median sale price of a single-family home in August was $364,900.
There were 6,914 single-family homes sold in Massachusetts in August, the second highest monthly sales volume of 2016 behind June, when 7,387 homes were sold, according to The Warren Group.
“All of 2016 has been spectacular for the Massachusetts real estate market,” Timothy Warren, CEO of The Warren Group, said in a statement. “In fact we are at or near record levels in several categories. No August has had a higher median sale price for single-family homes since August 2005 when the median reached $370,000.”
