The Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts (HCAM) and the Home Care Association of America (HCAOA) have signed a collaborative agreement that will boost state lobbying efforts on behalf of home care agencies as well as offer enhanced education and training opportunities for industry professionals.
This is the first collaborative agreement HCAOA has signed with a state-based group, as the national organization looks to set up state chapters, said James Fuccione, director of legislative and public affairs at HCAM
HCAM represents about 200 member agencies across the state, about half of which private-pay home care agencies that specialize in non-clinical care. The other half of member agencies receive payment from federal and state insurance programs and specialize in clinical activities.
In the short-term, Fuccione said collaborating with HCAOA will mostly improve education and training for agency leaders and their staff. Long-term, he said HCAOA’s federal lobbying and advocacy acumen will prove useful on Beacon Hill, where the state group is pushing for oversight of private-pay home care agencies.
