Holy Cross Turns From Purple To Green

The College of the Holy Cross has met its carbon emissions reduction goal four years ahead of schedule.

The school’s environmental task force had a goal of reducing emissions 20 percent by 2015. Already, the school has reduced carbon emissions by an estimated 23.5 percent.

This was done through a variety of measures including:

  • A long-term contract to buy electricity from TransCanada, which uses renewable energy sources.
  • Making boilers on the campus more efficient and using “greener” fuels.
  • Upgrading lighting fixtures, insulating pipes and instituting a green building policy for any new renovations or construction.
