The College of the Holy Cross has met its carbon emissions reduction goal four years ahead of schedule.
The school’s environmental task force had a goal of reducing emissions 20 percent by 2015. Already, the school has reduced carbon emissions by an estimated 23.5 percent.
This was done through a variety of measures including:
- A long-term contract to buy electricity from TransCanada, which uses renewable energy sources.
- Making boilers on the campus more efficient and using “greener” fuels.
- Upgrading lighting fixtures, insulating pipes and instituting a green building policy for any new renovations or construction.
