The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester will construct two three-story townhouse-style dormitory buildings along City View Street, according to applications to the Worcester Planning Board and Conservation Commission.
The two proposed dormitories, each a little over 20,000 square feet, will contain 72 beds across 10 dorm units. The college will also add four accessible parking spaces to the development to make a total of 1,774 spaces across the campus.
As townhouses, the dorms will include kitchens, dining areas, lounges, and other common spaces.
The project is proposed on the northern side of City View Street near Holy Cross’s residential Ciampi Hall. There are four single-family dwellings existing on the site, which will be razed and removed, according to the proposal. The redevelopment will eliminate about 6,500 square feet of vegetated or wooded area.
The proposed site is listed as 1 and 87 College St. as well as 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 City View St., all of which Holy Cross owns. The college bought the City View Street properties intermittently starting in 1997 through 2018 for a total of $852,350.
Holy Cross requires site plan approval from the planning board and has submitted a notice of intent to the conservation commission for their Monday meeting.
