The College of the Holy Cross has hired Elliott Visconsi, an administrator from the University of Notre Dame and a Holy Cross alumnus, to be the Worcester school’s next provost and dean of the college.
He will start on July 1.
Visconsi succeeds Margaret Freije who served in the position from 2014 until 2022. Ann Marie Leshkowich has been serving as interim provost since July 1, according to a Tuesday press release from the college.
Visconsi most recently served as the associate provost and chief academic digital officer at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
“Elliott has an impressive track record of collaborative academic innovation, cross-disciplinary experience in academic leadership, and work building effective, evidence-based, and engaging learning for students,” Holy Cross President Vincent Rougeau said in the press release.
Visconsi holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Holy Cross, graduating in 1995, a Ph.D. in English literature from UCLA, and a master’s degree from Yale Law School in Connecticut.
Freije announced in September 2021 she would take a sabbatical and step down from her role as provost at the end of that academic year.
